Dear Fellow Canadianists,

The University of Windsor will host the Sixth Annual Meeting of the Michigan Canadian Studies Roundtable on Friday, April 2, 2004, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This year's conference will be held at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research. (for maps & directions click here) within the shadow of the Ambassador Bridge. Parking will be at the Assumption Lot and will be Can$3.75 for the day.

The Roundtable was established in 1999 to facilitate interchanges between people in Michigan with an interest in Canada. As past participants have found, the Roundtable's relaxed structure offers rich opportunities for:

Our luncheon speaker will be Herb Gray, one of the most venerated figures in Canadian politics of the last four decades. He is now Canadian Chair of the International Joint Commission. For more information on him, see http://www.ijc.org/rel/about/bio_gray_e.html. There will also be a raffle with fabulous prizes (courtesy of the Canadian Consulate General) held at the end of the day. You must be present to win!

The Roundtable is being held in conjunction with the 14th Annual Wayne-Windsor Canadian Studies Symposium. It will take place on the evening of Thursday, April 1, and will examine "Security, the Border, and the Canada-U.S. Relationship," at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the WSU main campus in Detroit. The featured speaker will be Prof. David G. Haglund, the Sir Edward Peacock Professor of Political Studies at Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario), who has published extensively on transatlantic security and on Canadian and American international security policy. Professor Haglund will speak at a dinner/plenary session scheduled for 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. A complimentary reception, scheduled for 5 p.m., will precede the event.

The Symposium dinner is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and advance registration is required. To attend or for further information, please contact Prof. John J. Bukowczyk, Director, WSU Canadian Studies Program and Symposium Chair, at aa2092@wayne.edu or (313) 577-2799. Registration deadline is noon, Wednesday, March 24, 2004.

Wayne State University has two other related activities: The Elane L. Jacob's Gallery's exhibit The Royal Art Lodge – Ask the Dusk (Feb.13 - Apr. 2), and the "Michigan in Perspective" 46th Annual Local History Conference (Apr. 2-3).
